Colin de Grandhomme hits fastest maiden hundred in Test cricket

Colin de Grandhomme hit his maiden test century off just 71 balls against West Indies in the first test at Wellington. His knock is the second-fastest hundred for New Zealand in Tests. Grandhomme broke a record which had stood for over a hundred years – England’s Gilbert Jessop had made his maiden and only Test hundred in 76 deliveries at the Oval in 1902.

WATCH: Ravichandran Ashwin becomes fastest to 300 wickets in Tests

Ravichandran Ashwin became the fastest to 300 wickets when he took 4 wickets in the 2nd innings of the 2nd test against Sri Lanka at Nagpur. Ashwin dismissed Lahiru Gamage, the last Sri Lankan wicket as India won the match by an innings and 239 runs, equalling their biggest Test win - they had also won by the same margin against Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2007. Ashwin reached the milestone in his 54th test and surpassed Dennis Lillee who took 56 tests to reach 300 wickets.

Ashwin is only the eighth spinner in the world to achieve 300 Test wickets, following his countrymen Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh.

Greenfield Stadium – 50th International stadium in India

The Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram is all set to host its first International cricket match when India take on New Zealand in the 3rd T20I. The ground is designed such that it can be used for international games of cricket and football.

After a gap of 29 years, Thiruvananthapuram will be hosting an international match. There were two ODIs hosted in the city back in 1984 and 1988 in the University Stadium against Australia and West Indies respectively.

Virat Kohli – Fastest to 9000 runs in ODIs


Virat Kohli became the fastest to 9000 runs in ODI cricket during his knock of 113 against New Zealand in the 3rd ODI and the series decider at Kanpur. He reached the milestone in 194 innings. AB de Villiers, the fastest to the landmark, got there in his 205th innings. Kohli is the sixth Indian and 19th overall to pass 9000 ODI runs. This was Kohli’s 32nd ODI hundred.

India won the match by 6 runs and the series 2-1 and Virat Kohli was the Player of the series.

Highest Run Chase without losing a wicket in ODIs

Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock created a new record in ODIs when they easily chased down a target of 279 with 43 balls remaining in the 1st ODI against Bangladesh at Kimberley. The pair also came close to the highest opening stand in ODIs – the best being 286 by Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga against England in 2006.

Shakib Al Hasan – 5000 runs and 200 wickets in ODIs

Shakib Al Hasan joined the elite group of players, who have scored 5000 runs and have 200 wickets to their name when he scored 29 during the 1st ODI against South Africa at Kimberley. He is also the fastest among the five players to achieve the milestone.

Shakib is the second Bangladeshi player after Tamim Iqbal to reach 5000 ODI runs.

Rangana Herath – First left arm spinner to take 400 Test wickets



Rangana Herath became the first left arm spinner to reach 400 test wickets during the 1st Test against Pakistan at Abu Dhabi. Herath took 5/93 in the first innings and 6/43 in the second innings helping Sri Lanka defend 135 leading his team to a surprise 21 run victory. He was awarded the Player of the Match.

Herath is the 14th bowler overall and second for Sri Lanka to take 400 wickets. He is also the oldest bowler at 39 years and 197 days to complete 400 wickets.

Rohit Sharma reached 6000 runs in ODI cricket when he smashed a 109 ball 125 in India's 7 wicket win over Australia in the 5th ODI at Nagpur. Rohit made his 14th hundred in ODIs. He also became the fastest player to score 2000 runs in ODIs in India. The opener has achieved this feat in just 43 matches.

Rohit became only the eighth Indian cricketer and the fourth fastest Indian to reach 6000 ODI runs.

Mumbai Indians - Champions of IPL 2017

Mumbai Indians lifted the IPL 2017 trophy beating Rising Pune Supergiant by just one run in the final at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Mumbai who won the toss and batted first were reduced to 7/79 by the 15th over but Krunal Pandya's innings (47 off 38 balls) helped them to a fighting total of 129. Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga and Mitchell Johnson bowled splendid last three overs to ensure Pune never crossed the required mark. Pune needed 4 off the last ball and Dan Christian could only manage two.
Krunal Pandya was declared the Man of the Match.

Mumbai Indians became the first team to register 100 wins in T20 matches when they beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 9 runs at the Eden Gardens. Half centuries from Saurabh Tiwary(52) and Ambati Rayudu(63) propelled Mumbai Indians to 173. KKR lost wickets at regular intervals and could only manage 164. The win helped Mumbai Indians to finish on the top of the table with 20 points.

India pulled off a stunning one run victory in an ODI against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2011. South Africa was given a modest target of 191 with Yuvraj Singh top scoring for India with a solid 53. When the 8th wicket fell, South Africa required just 14 for victory, but Munaf Patel dismissed both Morne Morkel and Wayne Parnell to take India to a 1 run victory. Munaf Patel took 4 wickets for 29 runs and was awarded the Man of the Match.

In one of the most dubious umpiring errors, Stuart Broad got a reprieve at a crucial stage in the first Ashes test of 2013 at Trent Bridge. Broad edged a ball from Ashton Agar on to Haddin's glove, from where it was deflected into the hands of Michael Clarke at first slip. Aleem Dar said not out. Broad stood his ground and Australia had no reviews left.

Mohammad Amir got run out in an awkward manner in the 3rd test against West Indies at Sharjah. Sachin Tendulkar hit a beautiful six during the Standard Bank International tri-series (India, Zimbabwe, South Africa) ODI against Zimbabwe at Benoni during his watch winning innings of 104. This innings also ensured that India went through to the finals to face South Africa. With Zimbabwe two points ahead going into the last group game, India had to overtake their 240 in 40.5 overs or less to slip past them into the final on net run-rate.

Ravichandran Ashwin - Fastest to 25 five-wicket hauls in tests

Ravichandran Ashwin bagged another record when he took 6/41 in Australia's second innings of the second test at Bengaluru. This was Ashwin's 25th 5 wicket haul and he became the fastest to reach the landmark in his 88th innings and 47th test. Australia got folded out for 112 to hand a 75 run victory to India.

Ashwin also completed 200 wickets in home Tests in his 30th Test, the quickest among the four India bowlers to do so.

Lasith Malinga destroyed the Perth Scorchers taking 6 wickets for just 7 runs to hand an easy victory for the Melbourne Stars in the 2012 Big Bash League. This is still the third best bowling figures in Twenty20 matches.

Nathan Lyon - Best Bowling figures by a visiting bowler in India

Nathan Lyon recorded figures of 8/50 as India collapsed for 189 in the first innings of the Second test at Bengaluru. This became the best bowling performance by a visiting bowler in India.

WATCH: Sourav Ganguly 141 against South Africa, ICC KnockOut semi final, 2000

Sourav Ganguly scored an unbeaten 141 to guide India to the finals of the ICC Knockout tournament played at Nairobi, 2000. India had beaten Kenya in the preliminary quarter final and Australia in the quarter final to set up the clash against South Africa in the semi finals.

India posted a healthy total of 295 and South Africa got all out for 200 in the chase.

Sanath Jayasuriya hit the ball to all parts of the Sydney Cricket Ground to take Sri Lanka to an emphatic victory in the VB series ODI match against Australia. He hit 4 sixes and 10 fours in his 96 ball knock that helped Sri Lanka post 309 after they chose to bat first.
