Sri Lanka creates history in the first test against Australia at Pallekele

Sri Lanka created History by registering their first victory against Australia in a Test match in 17 years.

They were helped by a brilliant century from Kusal Mendis in the  2nd Innings and wonderful bowling by spinners Rangana Herath (4/49 & 5/54)  and Lakshan Sandakan (4/58 & 3/49).

Kusal Mendis was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Virat Kohli - First Indian captain to score a double century away from home

Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain to score a double century away from home as he scored 200 in the first innings of the first test against West Indies at Antigua. Kohli's previous highest first-class score before this double hundred is 197 against Pakistan's Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited at the Feroz Shah Kotla in 2008-09.

Mohammed Shami - Joint quickest Indian Pace Bowler to 50 Test wickets

Mohammed Shami became the joint quickest Indian pace Bowler to reach 50 Test wickets along with Venkatesh Prasad during the first test against West Indies at Antigua. Shami recorded figures of 4/66 as West Indies got all out for 243 and India enforced the follow-on.

RECORD: Alastair Cook - Most number of runs in Tests as Opener

Alastair Cook bagged another record during the first test match against Pakistan at Lords. Cook overtook Sunil Gavaskar to become the leading run scorer opening in tests during his innings of 81. Gavaskar's record stood for nearly 30 years after he retired from Tests in 1987.

WATCH: Pakistan team celebration after winning the Lords test

The first test between England and Pakistan was a cracking contest as Pakistan cruised to victory by 75 runs. It was a spirited display by the Pakistan team who celebrated the victory with the entire team taking push-ups. Misbah did a similar celebration when he scored a hundred in the first innings.

WATCH: Misbah Ul Haq's interesting celebration after reaching hundred at Lords

Misbah Ul Haq celebrated his century against England at Lords in a unique fashion by taking push ups.

"That was my promise to the army guys," Misbah said afterwards. "We did a camp in Abbottabad before the skill camp in Lahore, and we used to do an honour code every time, we just stepped into the ground and did ten push-ups. And I promised them, if ever I score a hundred, I will definitely do that to remind you that we were there."

CRICKET ON THIS DAY: India's Epic win in the Natwest series Final 2002

On this day, 14 years back on July 13, 2002, India beat England by 2 wickets in one of the most thrilling ODI match to lift the Natwest series trophy. Sri Lanka was the other team in the tournament.

England who batted first posted a healthy total of 325/5 on the back of centuries by Marcus Trescothick and Nasser Hussain. India in reply chased down the target with 3 balls and 2 wickets to spare, thanks to half centuries by Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif.

In an echo of Flintoff 's antics at Mumbai five months earlier, Ganguly whipped off his shirt and whirled it round his head on the players' balcony.
